Zone 0 Ember-Resistant Clearing
Zone 0 — CAL FIRE’s Ember-Resistant Zone — is the newest and most important part of defensible space: the first 5 feet around your home. Wind-driven embers can travel up to a mile ahead of a fire and ignite what’s against the house, so this band matters most. The rule phases in through 2027. We clear the 0–5 ft zone to ember-resistant standards and document the work.
What’s included
- Vegetation removed from the 0–5 ft zone against the structure
- Combustible bark mulch and ground litter cleared
- Dead leaves and debris removed from against walls and under decks
- Plant material near vents and eaves addressed
- Before/after photo documentation
